Toyota has announced that it has just cleared a global milestone – one million hybrid vehicles sold.

The automaker was the first to market a modern gas-electric hybrid with its Prius back in 1997 (in Japan—Honda’s Insight was America’s first hybrid), and it has since gone on to sell some 1.047 million hybrids in 40 countries and regions worldwide.

For its part, Toyota hopes to clear one million hybrid units annually by early next decade.

That’s good news. I hope to see Toyota reach 1,000,000 HEVs per year. Mother Earth would be pleased.
