Land Rover has been singing a ‘greener’ tune as of late, but it is still facing massive regulatory and consumer pressures to turn out more environmentally sensitive vehicles.
To that end, the Ford-owned property is working to clean up its carbon dioxide emissions, as well as looking at lightweight materials. But part of the changeover is likely to include a smaller vehicle than what is in the company’s current lineup.
According to a Financial Times interview with Land Rover/Jaguar head Geoff Polites, “a smaller vehicle is a possibility.” To that end, Polites is quoted as saying “‘Part of the process will include downsizing and smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles.’” Recently, an Autocar article pointed out that Land Rover is working toward a full hybrid lineup.
Of course, Land Rover’s future plans will likely be subject to another owner, as the Ford Motor Company is shopping the fabled British marque as part of its Way Forward bid for profitability.
What do you think about the idea of a sub-LR2 –sized Land Rover? How small is too small? Have your say in ‘Comments.’
