In addition to the performance-oriented Shelby GT500KR and Foose Edition F-150, Ford pulled back the sheet on this big boy, the 2008 Funkmaster Flex Expedition.

To be available this autumn, the FFE is essentially a cosmetically upgraded short-wheelbase Expedition Limited. Flex was on hand at this morning’s meetings in Dearborn, and the urban-minded entrepreneur and DJ made sure that those in attendance knew that this wasn’t his personal vision, it was a reflection of the trends and wants of his constituents on the street. Fashioning himself as something approaching an urban automotive ethnographer, Flex believes that this new Expedition will address an untapped market niche.

The FlexPedition features a 3d Carbon body kit (which will be made available separately through Blue Oval dealers) slathered in two-tone Colorado Red and Black paint. Rolling on 20-inch chrome-capped aluminum wheels, the vehicle’s suspension is unaltered, but appears to be lower thanks to aforementioned body kit.

Inside, FFE owners will be treated to black leather seating surfaces, with decidedly unsubtle Colorado Red accents slathering the center console, dash, and doors. Pricing has not yet been announced.

2008 Ford Expedition Funkmaster Flex Edition:

Coming to dealer showrooms this fall, the 2008 Ford Expedition Funkmaster Flex Edition turns the hot Expedition concept vehicle created by hip hop DJ Funkmaster Flex into a limited-production, short wheelbase SUV.

The Expedition FMF will sport a two-tone Colorado Red-and-Black paint scheme with Orange pinstriping and special chrome badging, a custom front fascia with integrated fog lamps, side skirts, rear fascia and 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels.

Inside, a matching Colorado Red instrument panel, console bezel, shifter and switch bezels blend with four leather captains chairs with red stitching, FMF red logo headrests, and a red-stitched steering wheel. Rounding out the package is an exclusive numbered dash plaque signed by Funkmaster Flex and SIRIUS satellite Radio.

The Expedition FMF Edition also sports a 340-watt Audiophile™ Sound System, MP3 player audio jack, Powerfold™ third-row seating, heated and cooled front seats and an optional navigation system, power liftgate and rear-seat DVD entertainment system.

From my comment on the Foose F-150:

“Wow! Ford is so desperate they have to bastardize every product they produce. Ford has too many Special edition items. Who can keep track!? Just build better products and you won’t need to attach Pop Culture icons to them to sell.”

Great. A Ford dressed up by a rapper.

Isn’t rap dying?

Apparently, Rap is responding to Chemo…

Nah, it’s dying. Record sales prove that. There isn’t enough ghetto trash with IQs under 70 to keep it going.

Now the cops can just SUV profile!

This is really awful, pointless crap, like the Chip Foose Edition F150, which will only steal sales from the equally pointless Roush F150.

The idiots at Ford are rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, only worse, they’re taking the time to replace the seat cushions with “custom” tailored seat cushions first.

On the other hand, this lunacy does make me giggle. I can’t wait until the Force Edition Focus.

I agree with John: why not just make better products? I don’t see special-edition Volvos, Saabs, or Lexus; they just do their stuff and sell it. And a bunch of european SUVs share lots of components and chassis with american-made ones. What is wrong with Detroit?

More than 30 years later, John DeLorean’s words seems to keep their validity…
