Ford Issues Stop Sell/Recall Order for 2008 Super Duty Trucks due to Flaming Tailpipes
Ford announced today that it has ordered its dealers to temporarily stop selling select models of its 2008 F-Series Super Duty trucks equipped with 6.4-liter Powerstroke diesels. The reason? Flaming tailpipes.
Ford is further recalling 37,400 F-Series SD models equipped with the Blue Oval’s 6.4-liter oil-burners, though in all fairness, around 29,000 of them are believed to be on dealer lots. The remaining gas and diesel powertrains (the latter displacing 6.0- and 7.3-liter, respectively) are not affected by the initiative.
Apparently, the problem stems from leaking fuel that ignites on a particulate filter that’s located near the tailpipe. Of the three reported cases (one resulting in a small grass fire), two of the leaks stemmed from a fuel injector issue, while the other was the result of a crack in the turbocharger.
Ford will execute a software upgrade for the engine’s control module, with the additional code instructing the engine to “power down

Well, that's a good start to sales.

Quality is still job 1 at Ford I see. No wonder they are going down the toilet.

Dueling double posts, LOL.
Yeah, I agree with taratatira. It would be the perfect deterrent for tailgaters. >:)

maybe the flaming tailpipe was done intentionally, it looks like these drag cars. O.K I will get serious. Ford is going fast down and, unlike G.M, it can’t put itself together and fight it. While G.M is building better quality, ford is building flaming tailpipes!!!

(Sigh...) Typical - don't fix the damn problem; adjust the software to shut down your engine! Way to go Ford!
But I shouldn't complain too much - when I go to sell my 7.3liter Powerstroke, I'll be able to say it's tried and true!

That would bee cool to have flaming tailpipes!!

The new 6.4l is an amazing engine. Quality has been Fords number one concern since 1903. The 6.4L is a brand new power plant it will get better. The tailpipe issue has only happened to a couple truck out of thousands. If you think Fords recalls are bad look up some Toyota recalls you will be shocked!!! Ford Rules
