Question of the Day: Which Turbocharged Car is Right for You?
Let’s face it, modern turbocharged engines are, almost with out exception, a lot of fun to drive. And for all their drama, the old ones could be pretty entertaining as well. So today we ask you, if you had your pick of the litter, which turbo-fed car would you choose to drive? New or old? Sensible or bonkers? Take your pick in comments.
If you’ve got an idea for Question of the Day, a funny photo for Caption It, or just want to share a news tip, let us know at windingroadtips@gmail.com

I love the Mazdaspeed3, though I am waiting for a return of the Mazdaspeed Miata (MX-5) I want it to get a turbo engine

The 1990-1996 Z32 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo was and is the best turbo car ever made.
David
Z32 model 300zx TT. Hands down the best looking attainable car ever.

Subaru Legacy GT Spec B or Volvo S60 R, if they made a 5 door Mazdaspeed6 without the body kit I'd like that.
X3 SoB
BMW 335i. Proven engine with progressive ramp-up of its turbos, no lag, eight cylinder performance with six cylinder efficiency.

I wold love to have a Subaru STi, amazing performance and everyday practicality in one compact package, but that is not enough to put it to the top of my most coveted turbo car list. Those child hood fantasy of a Ferrari F40 are still pretty tempting but I think the ultimate turbo car is the Ford RS200. The glory of a Group B Special Stage every time you pop out for milk.

I'll take a black Saab 900 Turbo.

From modern turbos, either a Saab Turbo X or the 335xi.

Definitely the Ferrari F40 with the 288 GTO close behind it. The Porsche 911 GT2 comes to mind. Also, have to mention my Pontiac Solstice GXP (of course).

My 2007 Porsche Turbo is not only a daily driver, but with 0-60 in 3.3 seconds smokes everything with more thn two wheels on the road.

Two cars, a chipped 1983 Audi Ur quattro, with a K-26 turbo, you have to work to drive this car fast, a joy to drive! the other would be My Son's 1986 Audi 4000 CSQ quattro, with a k-24, 034-EFI engine management, 350 chp, nasty fast! Bilstein sport shocks, H+R springs, that sucker squats and goes, wheel spin can be an issue if you don't lock the diffs, The URq has 3:87 diffs, the 4000 has 4:11 diffs,, new cars suck, though I do enjoy driving the Minis I mod with a quaife diff and chip and overdrive the supercharger for Mini-madness, finished one today, license to speed on the road test, nothing like a work uniform to get out of a ticket, don't even get asked for the driver license

Mazdaspeed3. After examining one in person for the first time and sitting there in the drivers seat, I fell in love.

mazda Speed 3 and Mazda 6 Speed are all in my house. Good cars but I don't like Front Drive. My cars are Mercedes C32 and BMW M Coupe and they are much easier to Drive.
Karl
hands down, 2008 Porsche GT2, faster than a 997T and just as driveable

I'm 25 and about to pick up my third Saab 9-3. It's all about the turbo, and Saab's 2.0T is not only more powerful, but also smoother than VW's 2.0T.

I have a high regard for the 300ZX, but I'm going to take the heat and say the 9-3 Aero with the turbo V-6 and XWD.
Mike
I surprised to see so many Saab enthusiasts. May I remind everyone that these are front wheel drive cars, with open diffs no less? My 2002 9-3 is a nice car but I would never call it quick, and that is the point of a turbo now isn't it? With an open diff, any amount of steering while accelerating results in obscene amounts of inside wheel spin up and understeer, the opposite of fun.
I'd go with an Esprit or Porshe 930 (with whale tail of course).
Randy

mine doesn't exist. The v8 mustang has always needed one..that long ford stroke has been a long running mistake. The diesel four bangers have always needed one...the subes seem to be a future option. (If america doesn't go retarded and ban it). Ya know..I'd like to meet this "America" that has made my mid 30s age group with automobiles a living hell. Old timers have something good to talk about, the youngest are going manic with junk...there is an inbetween, and I am in it. Diesel turbo. This century. Wow. Someone has thier head out of thier ass...almost.
kellycm2
wow, only one mention of the bmw 335. I thought i was just drunk but this is one serious contender for under 50k. As far as turbo cars go, this is one of the best avaliable now, it will run with anything this side of 80k especially with a vishnu tune. thats just IMO.
Bob
Being that I own a Legacy GT, and can still not think a car I'd rather have, I would have to vote for that.
Fun to drive and not having to worry about looking like some ricer. If it wasn't for the hood scoop (which is completely functional unlike 90% of the other hood scoops on cars) it would be completely overlooked as a sports sedan. Actually even with it still is pretty much overlooked, which is nice on the rare occasion I get pulled over.
