Question of the Day: Which Automakers Don’t Get Enough Attention?
While much of our attention is focused on the large automakers of the world, which happen to make the bulk of the motoring news, we realize that there are smaller companies who go for long stretches without a mention. Which car companies do you believe deserve more of a spotlight? Tell us which companies (new or old, we're not picky) you think should get more ink and why, in comments.

Mazda.....the cars are fantastic, but quite often people overlook them in favor of Honda and Toyota.

TVR? What has the Russian done with them thus far? I like my parents S40. That is a solid car there. But loves to drink the expensive sauce.

I'll agree with Uragan on Citroën and Saab. And for that matter, a lot of European brands are neglected by the U.S. auto press.
On the other hand, BMW and Audi are way over-exposed and oft-praised with little or no reason (e.g. the 7-series rumoured to receive 4-wheel steering, boo hoo, it's all over the automotive sites as if they reinvented the wheel).
Ultra luxury exotics are also the recipients of too much unnecessary attention for their market relevance and insignificant footprint. I understand people get hyped and excited about Ferarris and Lamborghinis, but who really cares if Pagani launched a new line of lingerie?

These days its all Honda this Toyota that Korean BS this and it's time for the Americans to get some press attention for their cars as opposed to their layoffs

Unicat, Etox, Dacia? I can't compete. I was going to say Mosler, but they are positively famous compared to those choices. I've got to say that corco and Taurus need to resolve the stresses in their lives. And mo is a ho-mo.
Bumblebee
I'll second Bimmer as being way overexposed. The last original thing they did was flame surfacing, and that's not something to brag about.
Mena
I agree with Corco. Saturn.

Mazda and Suzuki don't get the props they deserve. BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Bugatti get way more coverage than they deserve. If there's any innovation that happens at Citroen, Peugeot, Opel, Fiat, or within any of VWs cars that aren't exported to the US, we'd never know about it unless we pick up a British magazine.
But then again, reporting on Citroen's latest achievement isn't going to sell magazines in the U.S.

Soupie is right. Mazda has some great stuff but they are never considered first tier. This is something that they should be addressing.

KTM is a good pick. I'll go with Spyker.

sarcasm time part 2. here are the companies that don't get enough attention at this moment.

Mazda and Mitsubishi, they still make some great cars. Having owned cars made by all the major Japanese manufacturers, Mazda, Mitsubishi and to some extent Nissan get a lot less kudos and coverage than Honda and Toyota.
The MX5 (Miata) is still the best value pure sports car you can buy and I miss the practicality of my big ol' V6 engined Mazda MPV.

The American car press has ignored for decades any brand not sold here. Just because the EPA says I can't buy one, doesn't mean I don't want to read about mainstream cars from Fiat/Lancia/Alfa, Peugeot/Citroen, Renault, etc.
If the American public was aware that these are not brands from the past, but are still among the world's largest manufacturers, perhaps there would be more demand for them to return to the US market.
Also, more coverage of the Japanese "kei" models would be welcome. A Chevy Spark/Citroen C1/Dacia Logan comparison test would be much more interesting to me than the typical Ferrari/Porsche/Corvette contest.
GTA
Alfa Romeo and Fiat (bdw citroen has already 4wheel steering on the new c5)

Definately Saturn. GM refuses to spend any advertising money and instead comes up with kitchy little silly forgetful marketing schemes. Advertise the vehicles already!
RedX7
Definitely Mazda. All I ever here about Japan Inc. is Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. Yes, definitely Mazda.
Rocha
Lotus, KTM, and Ariel. I specifically want to hear more about what they have on the horizon, like the Lotus Eagle (when and where can we expect to see it), and the KTM X-bow (need a grass-roots movement to get that thing over here in North America). I would also add that I would like to see more motorcycle coverage, like Ducati, MV Agusta, Harley-Davidson, KTM (again), BMW (they have a new $25,000 sportbike that deserves attention from the press), etc. Winding roads are not limited to four wheels.

Although I love to know what´s going on with Porsche and Ferrari, I agree with Palmer that there are many tests that would be very interesting, for example, C4 vs. 407 vs. Golf vs. Astra. btw GTA, the Citroën ZX had 4 wheel steering in the early 90's. And let's not forget the Activa, which was capable of 1.2 g's on the skidpad, but it is almost impossible to find a decent test of that French car.

Tata, Wiesmann, Yes!, Th!nk, Meyers Manx, Mercury (shame, shame on you Ford!), Avanti, Factory Five, Isuzu, and Panoz. And if I can get away with it, Matchbox (enough with Hot Wheels, already!).
Brock
Bristol. And I'd like to know what happened to MG.
X3 SoB
Montverdi, Jenson, Marcos, Lancia, Proton, Riley, Superperformance, Mugan, Sangg-Yong, Lada, Austin, Borgward, Stutz, Koeniggsegg, Moog, MAN, Isuzu, Frieghtliner, Kenworth, Masey Ferguson, John Deere... I suppose that should do it!
The Stig
Well, if GM, Ford and Chrysler made more cars worth mentioning, maybe they would get more attention. It's not too hard to look at their current lineups and see why they're not getting the attention that some here think they deserve. Of the 3, GM seems to be doing the best with the release of the Aura, CTS, and Malibu and have gotten press and awards.
Rat-ta-tat-tat
Palmer M - AMEN!
