Cars and music have seamlessly been intertwined since, well, nearly forever. And, there are a lot of songs out there about cars. We here have been discussing what the best song about cars is.

A lot of songs were thrown around with no real winner – Chuck Berry’s “I Want to Be Your Driver”, Ministry’s “Jesus Built My Hot-Rod”, Beatles’ “Drive My Car”, Bruce Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac”, Ween’s “El Camino”. The list goes on for miles. But, we want to know what auto-related song is your favorite. Let us know in the comments.

If you’ve got an idea for Question of the Day, a funny photo for Caption It, or just want to share a news tip, let us know at windingroadtips@gmail.com

Pride and Joy by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Not sure if anyone has ever confirmed that the song is specifically about a car, but that is the rumor, and that’s what I like to think.

Although it’s not really about a car, it involves driving, so I’m going to go with the more contemporary answer and go with Rihanna’s “Shut Up and Drive.”

I don’t have a,”top car song”;but,the following I do file under,”various”:

“Lady Cab Driver”,by Prince:”…THIS is for,the greedy,not all of them,just the ones,who don’t know how to give…”(One of my favorite lines,ever…sorry,lol…)

“Drive”,by The Cars

“Terra Plain Blues”,by Robert Johnson(Great Song;plus,I’m from Robert Johnson’s hometown…Clarksdale,MS.)

“Pull Up To The Bumper”,by Grace Jones(…pull up,to my bumper baby,in your long black LIMOUSINE…)

“Cars”,by Gary Newman(First Video I’ve ever seen on MTV…and yes,I KNOW the first video on MTV is,”Video Killed The Radio Star”,by the Buggles,lol..)

JOE WALSH - LIFE’s BEEN GOOD TO ME

“My Maserati does 185,
I lost my license so now I don’t drive…”

Awesome song that references cars.;)

And it wasn’t until I was an adult that I figured out “little red corvette” wasn’t about cars at all. LOL.

Brett February 29th, 2008 10:11 PM Link

LOL?! What are you, 13 years old?

Jeff February 29th, 2008 10:22 PM Link

“Hot Rod Lincoln” written by Charlie Ryan in 1955 and performed best by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen. Charlie owned the car he wrote about, so he got it right. Ronnie and the Daytona’s “Little GTO” wasn’t bad either, but the song was actually written by Pontiac’s ad agency so was more of a long commercial than a song.

nobody is gonna touch my car, its gonna break the speed of sound.
409. 409.saved up my pennies and saved up my dimes. 409. 409. blah blah blah
“chasin cars” is a modern one…if not about cars, I made pretend it was, as it doesn’t make much sense anyway.
and there is the other classics…
little deuce coupe.
and on and on and on…
can;t forget that song about the 35million dollar 1987 dual range subaru. oh wait. THERE WASN’T ONE.

dante February 29th, 2008 10:59 PM Link

She’s My Baby - Faithless. The second verse is about a car.

Fuel by Metallica. There is no other song I would rather be flogging my car to. I cannot express the feeling of listening to that song and doing things with vehicles that would usually get you arrested, if you were caught. Definately a song to drop the hammer to.

Hey, Little Cobra, don’t you know
you’re gonna to shut ‘em down

I took my Cobra down to the track,
hitched to the back of my Cadillac,

Everyone was there just a waiting for me
There were plenty of Stingrays and XKEs,

Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike
Spring Little Cobra with all your might
Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike
Spring Little Cobra with all your might

Hey, Little Cobra, don’t you know
you are going to shut them down

When the flag went down, you could hear rubber burn,
The Stingray pulled me going into the turn

I hung a big shift, and I got into high,
When I when I flew by the Stingray, I waved bye bye.

Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike
Spring Little Cobra with all your might
Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike
Spring Little Cobra with all your might

Hey, Little Cobra, Don’t you know
you are going to shut ‘em down

Around the turn into the straight away
I was blowing off everything that got in my way,

Stingrays and Jags were so far behind
I took my Cobra out of gear and let it coast to the line.

Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike
Spring Little Cobra with all your might
Spring little Cobra getting ready to strike
Spring Little Cobra with all your might

Hey, Little Cobra, Don’t you know
you are going to shut ‘em down

Shut’em down, shut’em down, shut’em down…

Got to love that song!

I was cruisin’ in my Stingray late one night
When an XKE pulled up on the right
And rolled down the window of his shiny new Jag
And challenged me then and there to a drag
I said, “you’re on, buddy, my mill’s runnin’ fine
Let’s come off the line, now, at Sunset and Vine
But I’ll go you one better if you’ve got the nerve
Let’s race all the way
To

Nothing will ever beat Little Deuce Coupe.

But, having been born in 1977…

Does Black Sunshine Count? White Zombie.

The wheels of his Mustang exploding on the highway like a slug from a .45
True death: 400 horsepower of maximum performance piercing the night
This is black sunshine.
