Tough choice. Either the 507 or the 328 MM Roadster.

327 or 2002, but also the 801 engine used in the Focke-Wulf Fw190, though my opinion on that would be different had I been an allied bomber pilot.

1st gen M3. IMO they've never duplicated the pure driving "feel" of that car.

M1 - way ahead of its time

507.

e30 m3 hands down

This is a surprisingly tough call for me. I love the 2002, and the impact it had is undeniable. But I'm such a softie for E30's, and the E30 M3 is a real pulse-raiser in my book. Of course, the lines of the 507 are so classic. I'll go with E30 in general, M3 to be specific.

The 3-series my ex-wife drove off a cliff.
Andy II
new 3-series convertible! and isetta
Todd B
The original M Coupe. Brutally fast and odd looking to many, those who love it, "get it".

I would like a Z4 M Roadster, but I'm not sure it's my favorite. There's just too many to choose just one.

The BMW E36 in any guise except Ti form

The E30 comes in a very close second

I don't have a favourite as I don't like BMW's. I work next door to a BMW dealer, and watching them all come in on flatbeds turns me off.

1984 - 1991 3 series....

635CSi - one of my childhood dreams, so elegant and smooth - an iconic coupe.

This is easy,
and as can be seen from most of the comments, not many can recall the best shape BMW ever - the 3.0 CSL.

Yes,I know that it doses not have the BMW Badge;but, for me it's the MINI Cooper.
Personally,I think that car,was the car that gave BMW the,"Next Generation",of BMW car buyers. Starting with Me.
Prior to buying my MINI,I simply thought of BMWs' as the official car of Yuppies/wanna-be Yuppies;therefore,a car I would never purchase.
Now,after driving my MINI for a few years,I KNOW my next car will be a BMW. Which is what the,"suits",at BMW had in mind,in the first place.

It's the 2002Tii ... without a doubt.

3.0 CSL hands down.

E46 M3. I think it looks far better than the current one. I remember thinking how much I wanted one...too bad I have lost any affection for the BMW brand now.
Shane
It would have to be the E30 M3 Sport Evolution !
Harry
For me, it's a toss-up between the following:
M1 (original)
E30 M3
E21 Euro-spec 323i (gray market import) to the US.
02chuck
Round tail light 2002's, Turbo, Tii, standard.
Just great little kick in the butt cars!!

E90 twin turbo with x drive.

I am surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but I believe the E39 M5 has got to be the most beautiful yet masculine-looking model they ever designed. On a related note, I find it interesting that almost all of the models listed above by others are from the pre-Bangle period. What does that tell you about the disappointment and betrayal people have felt since his arrival at BMW?
jc
I loved the original M635CSi, or M6 in the US.
And the Z1 was definitely unique
Joshua
The 3.0CSL is still an incredible car, design and performance, but it is the E30 that I think is Munich's finest. It one of the greatest examples of what is missing from performance car lineups, the Homologation Special. Please, oh please FIA & Co. bring back these regulations, it's the only way we will ever see such great drivers cars again.
The Stig
It's not just Bangle that is ruining current BMW's. It's BMW dropping crap in like iDrive, taking temp gauges out of the dash, calling gear fluid good enough for life, taking away the oil dipsticks, and loading enough computer crap in the current crap to diminish the driving 'feel' that people like from BMW. There is nothing over a 3 series that I burn to own anymore, and even the 3 barely does it for me for all the reasons noted above (although I will admit I did enjoy driving it - just not with active steering please) Even some reviews have pegged the new M3 as too soft. It's a shame BMW has chosen to go down the me-too road. Then again they are a business and will always follow the money......
Kai
507, or the 635CSi.

The E39 M5 - clearly one of the best.

toss up between: E24 635CSi, E30 M3, E34 M5 and E38 750iL Sport (gotta love the 18" M Parallel wheels)

**E34 M5** , Yeah the E39 is nice, but the E34 was hand built by the M Boys, not a mass produced car. Its a stealth bomber you can take the whole family on a long trip in. Mine has 220K miles on it, and has yet to have the engine opened up. One issue, it eats tires, heavy car with lots of power = lots of rubber left in the corners.
