Volkswagen Looks to Build Plant in the U.S. Southeast
Volkswagen is closing in on large parcels of land for sale in the American South, as the company furthers its efforts to build a second North American factory.
Currently, the Carolinas and Georgia are leading the charge, though VW sources say that the company’s board members “haven’t yet made the final decision.

With the value of the dollar, it's probably cheaper to build them here for export back home than make them there. Hey, I wonder if China will be pegging their currency to the Euro soon.

I suspect the reason is hope that the quality may improve over the ones made in Mexico. Right now VW's reputation is in a tank. Let's see if making them here helps, or if the problem is much deeper than assembly.

From China's point of view, that would make no sense at all.
Also, I would be willing to bet good money that none of the VWs made here would be exported back to Germany. They would all be for North American consumption.

Look back over my previous postings... I think I nailed this one. VW is looking into the South.
Why? Low taxes, good workforce, good business climate and suppliers. Oh, and no unions.
