UAW Workers Strike at GM Supplier American Axle
The United Auto Workers have launched a strike against major General Motors supplier, American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings this morning, with more than 3,600 union members headed for the picket lines until a new contract agreement can be reached.
The UAW called the strike at 12:01a.m., after Monday talks failed to resolve major issues including company demands for wages to be cut. Said American Axle CEO Richard Dauch, “All of the changes we have proposed have been accepted by the UAW in agreements with our competitors in the United States. I have no idea why AAM is being singled out for a different set of economic conditions."
The strike isn't expected to have an immediate impact on GM as the supplier is said to have quietly built up a three-day stock of axles and other parts, in anticipation of such a strike.

Do these workers not understand these automakers are losing money? I don't get it..

While a lot of automakers are not profitable American axle had a profit last year of 37 million dollars and the executives had no problem in giving themselves bonuses. Line workers and tradesmen are only asking to keep the wages they have and to have some health care. A lot of the auto companies losses are because of top heavy management and poor management of their funds. Without these workers (who by the way without them there would be no product) the company would colapse. Hey why don't we outsource the management to Mexico and save on the high cost of executives, then there would be enough money to put out a made in USA product that would stand up to any in the world.

Having spent too many years in the corporate world, all I can say is Amen. That, and let's outsource lawyers to some deep jungle in Borneo.

I have a better solution. Outsource the UAW, then we'll REALLY see some profits.
