Strike at American Axle Claims More Victims

The sixth General Motors plant shutdown yesterday. Now, the seventh plant will fall victim to the UAW strike at American Axle Manufacturing Inc. next week.

GM’s Mishawaka, Ind. plant – which makes the Hummer H2 – was idled yesterday. GM’s Toledo, Ohio transmission plant is expected to shut down on Monday, according to Automotive News.

The plant idling has also trickled-down the pipeline to begin affecting suppliers. Lear Corp., the seating supplier to GM's light trucks, has laid off 700 workers and idling four of its own plants. Lear spokesman Mel Stephens said, “Where GM production is down, we are down.
