Lamborghini Ends Gallardo Superleggera Production

2007-lamborghini-gallardo-superleggerahl.jpg

Light weight, buttoned-up, and faster than hell, the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera is now on its way to being a very tasty footnote in the history of the storied automaker. Lamborghini has finished production on the stripped down super car, recently sending the very last batch of Superleggeras to dealers.

Just 172 examples of the Gallardo specials were made, with the bulk ordered in orange (46 examples) or yellow (45). Ten special customers took delivery of white Superleggeras, ensuring days of detail cleaning after manly jobs like driving the albino bulls through the hills after a rain. Time well spent.

Bid farewell to the Gallardo Superleggera with a browse through the gallery below.

The Gallardo Superleggera's supposed lightweight status was proven false after its premiere in the pages of Sports Car International (by a letter writer, no less). Lamborghini's weight claim was questionable, and the real-world weight was still hefty.

This car is far from "stripped down." It's no Ferrari F40.

Man. Gallardos are hot. I drove past a Spyder today. But that guy drives his Spyder around a lot, so it's not too uncommon to see it. Then I drove past the superlegerra at the dealership...then a F430 rushed past. Man. Maybe I should drive around Waikiki more...good day for exotic viewing.

It's funny how they lose their impact with familiarity. I see these every day and they're starting to blend in. Nothing like seeing a Countach, or even a Jalpa, back in the day.
