Gas Explosion at Porsche Factory Expected to Postpone 911 Production
Porsche reported today that its production of the 911 model will be on hold for between two and three days, due to a gas explosion in the spray-painting area of its main production facility in Zuffenhausen, Germany.
Reports indicate that the explosion caused two employees to suffer minor injuries, but no fatalities were incurred. The spray-painting unit and some other areas of the production system have been partially flooded, after water from the fire-extinguishing system covered the area.
At 160 911’s per day, Porsche stands to hold up a significant portion of the sports car supply. However the Cayenne and Boxster, both produced at facilities elsewhere in Europe, shouldn’t be affected by the accident.
