Chrysler Plans Mandatory Summer Break

chairs_on_beachhl.jpgWhile Chrysler may not be able to force its employees to take buyouts, it seems the automaker has got the authority to make them take summer vacations.

It seems that an internal email was leaked today, revealing a Chrysler order to its employees that no one will be able to come to work from July 7 through July 21 this summer. Mid-summer shut downs are normal occurrences at many auto factories, but this no-work order will extend to most salaried employees as well. Only Chrysler teams working on “special projects” will be up and running during the two-week timeout.

Chrysler was unwilling to elaborate on the short-term shut down, saying only that the move would lead to a boost in productivity and efficiency. Get your Mopar bathing suit ready.

Actually they might think about shuting down for two MONTHS and still not lower ridiculous inventories enough. Nobody (in significant numbers) seems to want anything they are building badly enough.

How is it that every hit they’ve had in the past several years is no longer a hit at all one year into the life cycle? It is a remarkable phenomenon.

The Chrysler badge is becoming almost as sales proof as Oldsmobile, Plymouth, or Mercury. Dump the sacred cow Chrysler name and focus exclusively on the more interesting Dodge and Jeep brands. What exactly does the name Chrysler stand for anyway? Nothing at all to today’s buyers.

Somebody must have found this idea in an old Simca ops manual.
