Bugatti Veyron Sales Hit 220

It’s been two years now since the first Bugatti Veyron 16.4 was delivered to the first lucky customer, and to date examples of the ultra-luxury marque have been handed over to 132 owners across the globe. Bugatti has also been able to confirm orders for a total of 220 Veyrons, creating a backlog of demand for the super car that currently stretches through 2009.

Those strong sales numbers have got to be vindicating for the automaker, which suffered such a long and public teething period while getting the Veyron prepared for customers. With more than two-thirds of the planned 300-car production run accounted for, and special luxury editions (like the Veyron Pur Sang seen above) keeping buyers captivated, Bugatti has proved that it was more than worth the wait for the $1.4 million sports car.

What a sweet car! That’s SO much money though… If I owned a Pur Sang Veyron I’d be scared to even drive it to the grocery store (or anywhere for that matter), out of the fear of getting a rock chip or getting it scratched or door-dinged. It is sexy, but not practical. It’s just an art peice that you cant do anything with, except for stare at and drool over…

Man, if you want art to drool over 1.4m can buy you a lot of very nice art from local artists. If I ever have that kind of money, as much as I love cars, I doubt I’d be buying them, since you can’t exactly put them in your living room to enjoy.

I wasn’t impressed with the one I saw. There are far better looking, more practical cars that are probably more fun to drive for much less money. Was smaller than I imagined it would be, which is good. The interior looked much nicer - leagues better than the ’80’s GM gray of the one pictured here. But for this type of vehicle, I was much more impressed with the Pagani Zonda. Every fiber weave was perfectly directionally aligned, every weld most owners would probably never look at, dead perfect.
