The Beetle engine would've been a better choice than the weedy Taunus/Sonnet III engine that doesn't take well to mods and has little to offer to begin with.
Just because an ignorant seller doesn't know the origin of his "mongrel" doesn't make it less of a kit. It started as a kit car designed for VW running gear. I suppose if you modify a kit car enough that you are no longer running any of the components that the kit was design around then you can say it is no longer a kit. Maybe just a poorly designed hot rod with a body suggesting more power than the engine will ever deliver?
That is a hideous kit car. It must also be hard as hell to drive with the poor visibilty, "rat-fink" shifter that sits higher than the driver, and weezey Saab V4 turning those Jeep wheels/tires.
