Winding Road’s Weekend Motorsports Report

NASCAR Nextel Cup: Jimmie Johnson won the Pep Boys 500 at Atlanta and now trails Jeff Gordon by a mere 9 points with three races left in the Chase. Johnson won the Chase last year and Gordon has won four championships during his NASCAR tenure. Clint Boyer could still win it all, but it’s highly unlikely that both Gordon and Johnson will falter enough for him to make up the triple-digit spread in points.

NASCAR Busch: David Reutimann avoided a slew of crashes and came out on top at the Sam's Town 250 Busch in Memphis. Though Reutimann’s first Busch win made all the headlines, the Busch plot thickens with Carl Edwards’ 25th place finish. Edwards wasn’t able to create a large enough gap in points to win the series championship at Memphis. So long as Edwards finishes 36th or better next weekend, the championship will be his.

NASCAR Craftsman Trucks: Kyle Busch won the EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 200 in Atlanta during the last lap. Ron Hornaday Jr let Busch slip by on the last lap, but managed to end the race four points ahead of Mike Skinner. Skinner has three races left to edge out Hornaday for the title.

When did WRC drop off the radar? If you're going to publish a "Motorsports Report", it should include WRC!
