I think the US could be a huge market for scooters if scooter racing was marketed well. Currently, only diehard greenies, teens who aren’t old enough to drive but have parents who think they’re (ir)responsible enough to have wheels, people who can’t afford the already low prices of owning/operating a used car (or have enough DUIs to make a moped an attractive option), delivery people in urban environments, and a small group of diehard scooterists regularly use scooters instead of cars.
If scooter racing showed the public that scooters can be hightech, reliable, clean, and efficient performance machines instead of the popular misconception that they are all noisy, cheap, dirty, and slow mopeds, sales would take off.
Of course, Schumi would not be the one to spearhead this in the US. You’d need NASCAR guys riding scooters on a banked oval to make them “cool.”
