Schumacher Turned Down Offer to be Ferrari’s F1 Boss
Jean Todt has moved on from his long tenure as the CEO of Ferrari’s Formula One team, replaced starting in the 2008 season by Stefano Domenicali. But it was seven-time world champion driver Michael Schumacher, not Domenicali, who was Todt’s first choice as a successor.
In an interview with German motoring magazine Auto Motor Und Sport, Todt said that Schumi would have made the ideal team boss, saying, “he would have been the best candidate for the job, but he did not want it.

I think that was a wise move on the part of Schumacher. He is a valuable comodity for Ferrari and an ideal spokesman for the company. He can give them valuable insights as a test driver, and probably the company could capitalize on his name with some "Micheal Schumacher Special Editions" of their road cars, but making him team boss would have no up side with a lot of possibilities for huge downside if the team doesn't live up to expectations. It would be like making Micheal Jordon head coach of the Chicago Bulls, or similar to the failures of Ted Williams in his various attempts to manage major league baseball teams before he finally realised that he wasn't manager material.

I agree with the above comments. Schumacher already had his dream job as an F-1 driver, paid to drive and win. He may be the world's best driver, but that in no way means that he would automatically be a good manager, or even enjoy being a manager.
