Report: McLaren Chief Ron Dennis Says He Will Not Step Down
After weeks of speculation that McLaren-Mercedes’ long-tenured boss Ron Dennis might be forced to step down before the 2008 Formula One season, the team principal has confirmed that he will be sticking around. Dennis reportedly spoke to the staff at McLaren’s Technology Centre in Working, UK recently, and promised that he would not be leaving his position.
Dennis has headed up McLaren since 1980, leading the team to multiple world championships under his tutelage. But pressure from the team's spying scandal last season, as well as countless reports that partner Mercedes was looking to buy him out, have led to great speculation of the 60-year-old McLaren chief moving on.
Dennis will remain, at least for this season, a major force at McLaren and in F1. The racing veteran currently holds three positions within the McLaren group: Chairman, CEO, and McLaren team principal.
