DTM’s Mattias Ekstrom Repeats as the Race of Champion’s Champion
Though the long, cold, winter months don’t provide a lot in the way of motorsports action, the yearly meeting of the Race of Champions is almost always entertaining.

The who’s who event of racing’s present and past saw a good turnout of big names to England’s Wembley Stadium this weekend. Jenson Button, Jimmie Johnson, Marcus Gronholm, and Travis Pastrana were among the ROC’s all-star lineup. But in the final heat of racing on Sunday it came down to a battle between last year’s ROC Champion, two-time DTM Champion Mattias Ekstrom, and F1 hero Michael Schumacher.
The final was decided by the best of three heats, and the championship came down to the very last one. After splitting the first two heats, Schumacher pulled out all the stops to try and catch Ekstrom in the third race. But it was to no avail, as Schumi spun in his reach for the title.
Said a modest Ekstrom in victory, “I didn’t start off very good but it’s turned out to be a nice event. At the end of the day everybody wants to win The ROC. To come here in front of all the spectators to this nice event, for me I really enjoy it every time.
