2010 May Mark the End of the Australian Grand Prix
As talks continue between Australian Grand Prix officials from Melbourne and Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone, it is becoming increasingly clear that 2010 could mark the end of a quarter-century of F1 racing down under.
Ecclestone is dead set on turning the Australian GP into a night race, in an effort to better serve the television viewing audience back in Europe. For their part the Melbourne race officials seem to be standing their ground, ostensibly stating that it doesn’t make financial sense for them to race at a time that’s convenient to another continent.
Officials from the rival Australian city of Sydney have offered up their hometown as a possible alternate location for a GP in Oz, but Ecclestone isn’t biting. He recently told Australian newspaper Herald Sun, in his typical sensitive manner, “There is nothing in Sydney -- they haven't even got a circuit.

I would agree that with Bernie, It's all about the money. He remains one of the "poster boys" for greed in sports today. He is reported to be worth 5 billion, but wants more. For what? As a strong F1 fan, the timing of the broadcast here in the states is not important. I'll set my alarm and tune in. Melbourne's loss of the Grand Prix would be loss to the sport, the fans and the people of Australia. The only one that doesn't lose is Bernie. He already has other countries and goverments wanting to throw money at him for a race date. Melbourne losing the F1 race will be a sad day of all of us who love F1 racing RM
