Tom Cruise First to Receive Ducati Superbike, Surprise

Tom Cruise is the first person to receive Ducati’s new $72,500 Desmosedici RR superbike. The red and white motorcycle is a Moto GP Racing replica fitted with lightweight titanium, magnesium, and carbon fiber parts and tops out at 200 mph. Only 1,500 of the superbikes will be made.
Cruise is expected to receive delivery of the bike sometime this week. In a statement Chief of Cupertino-based Ducati North America Michael Lock said, “We are delighted to be able to deliver the world’s first production unit here in the USA to Tom Cruise, who is a well-known Ducati enthusiast.”

I know it’s a race replica, but is it really worth that massive premium over other superbikes?

The news about Tom Cruise isn’t that important, but Ducati’s new bike is very very big news in the motorcycle world.
This is Ducati’s first street-legal version of a MotoGP bike, and is the first true road-going replica of a MotoGP bike released by any manufacturer. Ducati is already known for their superbikes, but Superbike racing focuses on highly tuned versions of production road bikes. MotoGP bikes are far more hightech, expensive, purpose-built racing prototypes, and are comparable to F1 cars.
The new Desmosedici is the world’s most powerful literbike ever, and has the best torque-to-weight ratio of any production bike in history. Ducati also has history and collector cache, which means that many people probably would have paid even more than $72,500 for the bike. Even if Honda released a production version of their MotoGP bike, I’m not sure people would pay the same amount of cash.

Actually maties, he’s a fairly competent rider - apparently he does track days on cars as well as bikes - actually he’s supposed to be one of the better celebrity riders out there. God knows he’s being doing it long enough (20 yrs now). He may be batsh*t crazy but he knows his bikes and apparently, rides them too!
