General Motors has said that the Pontiac G8 will be the most heavily advertised vehicle this year, according to Automotive News. GM will be using traditional media outlets opposed to the new-age internet ad blitz most automakers are starting to utilize.

I confess that I trolled a Pontiac lot the other night, wondering if the G8s had arrived. But with the numbers that they're talking for production, I've got a suspicion that dealer markup is going to be a problem.

These appear eerily similar to to how the Aurora was the most important product to Oldsmobile. the G8 is priced more reasonably and has RWD, but can it save the brand?

The G8 is a great car, but with only 30K sales, why all the advertising? The positive reviews will generate enough buzz to sell the 30K of units.

The advertising will only guarantee huge dealer markups and pissed off customers. GM does not benefit from either of these.

You hit it on the head Mark. My eyebrows were raised when I saw the max production capability at 30k units. Anyone have any sales numbers for the Charger and 300C when it was released? I remember a time when you had to wait MONTHS to get a hemi C, and I'd be willing to be bet they made more than 30k of those.

If the dealers are dumb enough to try to tack on markups, people will find alternatives, just as they've always done. Then when demand wanes because no one cares anymore and the next 'big thing' is out, they'll be stuck with a glut and yet another bad taste in their mouth courtesy of GM.

WOW...huge advertizing to sell only 30K units. there must be a typo here. If not, someone is off their meds.
