Most companies would be thrilled to have the rights to air a 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl, let alone two of the valuable ads. But as late as the first part of this week, automaker Hyundai was said to be feeling a twinge of buyer’s remorse over just such a brace of ads.
Hyundai had purchased two spots in the second half of the February 3 game on Fox, but had made some noise about the wisdom of that move in our weakening economy.

At a rate of up to $3 million per 30-seconds, the automaker had postulated that it may have made an expensive error. The problem, Hyundai executives have said, was that the company wasn’t sure it would have “something really interesting to put forth,” a fate worse than not buying the time to begin with.
Hyundai has now confirmed that it will indeed run the Super Bowl spots, even submitting storyboards to Fox in an effort to soothe the network’s fears. We would like to think that we can expect some Genesis goodness to come out of the high-profile ads; in an effort to capitalize on some of the buzz Hyundai had built at recent auto shows.
Chances are we would have been watching the game anyway, but with the new Hyundai drama, consider it a “can’t miss.”
