Nissan Recall: Company Must Fix Sensor for 650,000 Sentras and Altimas

nissan_logohl.jpgNissan has issued a recall for 650,000 Altimas and Sentras from model years 2002, and 2005-06. Recalled vehicles are only those equipped with Nissan’s 2.5-liter four, which may, apparently, just stop running.

Reportedly the problem is with the crankshaft position sensor, which, when overheated, can stop sending a signal to the car’s ECU. When this signal is lost, the ECU may not be able to diagnose the problem, and may respond by shutting down the whole operation; otherwise known as your engine.

Owners of the troubled Nissan’s should get themselves down to the dealership, where a simple reprogramming should right the ship with very little bother. Nissan, of course, will be picking up the tab. Safe driving.

Honestly, come on, Nissan. The '07+ revisions better not suffer the same fate as the first QR25. Between this, the butterfly screws, the disintegrating precat, the bad transmissions, the meltdowns, the knock sensors, and the fuel pumps (1.8 Sentras as well on that one), this poor engine has suffered more than enough lapses in engineering for a lifetime.

MickieBenZ should recall all their cars with the v6, crank sensor dies, engine quits, car cools off and runs for awhile and of course sets no codes I cannot tell you how many I have replaced, and the MAS? carry a spare, same for VAG and BuMmerW on the MAS. all cars have pattern failure. ABS modules on passats and a-4.

I just took my car in about 10 days ago for this very problem. its a 2003 Altima with the 2.5L. The repairs cost about $280. I am no mind reader didnt know they were gonna recall it. I need to go back and get reimbursed for this!

I think this is the third time that Nissan has recalled for a reprogram of the ECU...who wrote this software???

I agree...this engine has its ups (GREAT mileage and decent performance), but it sure does have its share of downfalls.
