The Senate unanimously approved a bill aimed at reducing accidents while reversing – which, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is particularly dangerous to children.

The bill requires the NHTSA to take steps to improve the rear field visibility of automobiles – which could include extra mirrors or rear-field cameras. The reversing power window would be a cinch, and alot of cars already have back up sensors. Still there is no magic wand you can wave over cars and get what you want, the government wants better fuel economy, more saftey, among other things. with air bags, back up sensors, tire pressure monitors, and all the other saftey stuff, its no wonder cars are getting heavier, and fuel economy suffers. Im all for saftey, but sometimes i wonder, u cannot idiot proof a driver no matter how much technology you throw at a car, things still happen, mean while the price of cars just keeps increasing.

According to the 2000 US Census data, there were 82,996,656 people aged 0-19. If we extrapolate the 474 from 02 to 06 over the 8 years 200-2007, that makes 758.4 children killed out of a possible 83,000,000.

Is that really an epidemic worthy of the price its going to cost every American who buys a car with these new regulations?

Over-regulation anybody?

Why not simply require one of those back-up beeping things on every car... if your kid doesn't know to get out of the way of a car that is making that noise, then let the "survival of the fittest" prevail. Estimated cost to install in every car... $2
