Luckiest Man in Philadelphia Escapes Death and Earns DUI
Talk about getting a lucky start on the New Year.
James Stirparo of Philadelphia was headed south on I-495 early in the first morning of 2008, after spending the evening getting a bit too cheery for New Year’s Eve.
(Click trough the jump to read on about Mr. Stirparo's interesting evening.)
Stirparo was approaching an off ramp on the highway when he lost control of his 1995 Jeep Cherokee and struck both the right and the left guardrails. The impact caused Stirparo to be thrown from his vehicle, landing him in the center lane of the highway. As he struggled to stand up an oncoming tractor-trailer drove over the top of him, missing his head and body completely.
Stirparo was taken to Christiana Hospital for several injuries, though was unbelievably lucky just to escape with his life. He has been charged with, no surprise here, driving under the influence, as well as having expired tags and no insurance identification.

Wow...that's a winner. Lucky for the trucker that he didn't hit the guy, too. I can't imagine that cleaning dude out of the grill is much fun.
This reminds me of a story about how a pitchfork got launched out of the back of a pickup truck and went through an oncoming car's windshield, luckily catching itself on the steering wheel rim and not in the driver's chest. True story; it happened on the DC beltway sometime in the past decade.
