Inexplicable Parking Brake Causes Man to Lead Police on 25-Mile Chase, Lies Suspected
A Houston man lead police on a 25-mile, 40-minute chase through the city on Monday night, causing three wrecks, jumping several curbs, and destroying the wheel of his stolen GMC Yukon in the process.
His reason for such an act of recklessness and civic malfeasance? He claimed that his parking brake was stuck and he couldn’t stop.
(Click through the jump to read on about the police chase and the strange parking brake.)
Thankfully no one was hurt in the melee surrounding the improbable chase, which ended after the stolen SUV was slowed by a front tire puncture, spewing sparks from the rim as it hobbled down the road. The perpetrator eventually stopped the stolen car near downtown Houston and was tackled by a police officer as he tried to flee the vehicle.
It was after the man was captured that he came up with the parking brake story. Unfortunately he didn’t elaborate on exactly how the parking brake was responsible for his inability to stop. To the best of our knowledge, parking brakes are designed exclusively to halt movement, not encourage it. Perhaps the gentleman's lawyer moonlights as a theoretical mechanic.

I guess his feet must have had the same problem as the parking brake.
