Why does anybody pay attention to this dumbass? We all know he is just the VP's puppet. Tells us something we don't already know.

hwyhobo

How is the expressed desire to get off oil being a puppet of VP? Why don't you get off your political high horse and talk about the issue at hand.

I completely agree we would be better off producing as much nuclear energy as possible instead of buying and burning oil. Nothing wrong with electric cars if we can supply them with non-carbon-based energy.

Cicero

Bush is no one puppet, he is just an idiot. I have an idea Mr. President, mind your own business about the market, let market factors decide what companies make.

Ducati Minor

brian, you calling the President a dumbass is like Hitler calling Stalin a genocidal dictator. The President may not be a genius or a brilliant orator, but his simple point is the right one. If we, as consumers, were more responsible, we'd have less of this aggrivating state interference in industry.

Urbanites would be better served to use compact electric cars and public transportation. Arguments on this are everywhere and understandable. I may take heat for it, but I also feel motorcycles would be good forms of transportation. An economical and sporty ride can be had (new) for anywhere from $3,500 to $5,000.

Things in demand get to rise their price: We like oil, so it's price goes up.

Wha'na drive a Z06? OK, but part of the deal is . . .

southern

Liberals have zero common sense.
They just run around hating.

The point that Bush made is well taken and he SHOULD use the"bully pulpit" to espouse it.

The President had 7 years to do something about our dependence on oil. He chose to do very little because he benefited from the price surge. (Oil family) Now that he is concerned about his legacy, he makes a feeble attempt to comment on the current dire situation. I don’t think he ever had the good of the nation at heart. (Just my thoughts on the nincompoop President.)

Hulkster

Mike W, you absolutely correct! In addition the general public tend to believe everything they are told. The market is based on speculation! (I know some Ivy leaguer will come on this blog and spout off the economics of supply and demand and how oil is calculated whether it be in the ground or in the reserves. All that to me is a bunch of BS and will not lower the cost of fuel that I have to put in my 4-banger to get to work.) Hasen't anyone learned anything from watching the old movie called "Trading Places" with Eddy Murphy and Dan Aykroyd.

How is anyone to live on a salary based upon minimum wage? Do you feed your car or your family or bills? Think about about that you clown of a president.

This clown we call a president has been in the oil business ever since he came out of his mother. I don't buy his crap about getting off the oil addiction. When has he ever filled his vehicles up with gas? Better yet has anyone in the any level of government filled their gas? If this clown wanted to releive the US from oil addiction, he would of made funding arrangements with the big three to help implement alertnative fuels.

He and the rest of the government has sold out this country to everyone that wants to make a quick buck off of the American people. I do not care if you are Democrat or Republican, everyone is corrupted by this politcal system.

This clown should be sued for his mismanagement of this country!!! Killing our own men and women in the armed forces for his personal family vendetta.

BillyBob

...just think "if" mr bush had spent that trillon bucks on new energy technologies instead of a iraq war (that will have no benefit to the us or iraq).....

John

It isn't enough that Bush has let the cost of gasoline and fuel oil for heating go through the roof, but now he wants to drive electricity prices sky high also? Sure, let's make electric cars so the demand for electricity goes up and we get to see prices sky rocket while we pollute the environment with coal fired electrical generation and see tax increases to pay for more transmission lines and equipment. We can barely afford to run the air conditioner in the summer now! I seem to remember that another of his good ideas was to promote ethanol as a fuel so that the price of corn goes up and makes food prices higher. Did we forget about the fuel cell now that it looks like few people get rich by driving up the price of hydrogen?

OPF

Well Nissan claims to bring an all-electric car by 2010 in America. So thats good. There's not only Toyota in the race...

Hulkster

Any way you look at it, the governnment has got you by the nads!

Gianni

It isn’t enough that Bush has let the cost of gasoline and fuel oil for heating go through the roof, but now he wants to drive electricity prices sky high also?

So the government is supposed to step in and set the prices at a level it deems reasonable? That has really worked well in the past...

rageous

Earth to Mr. President!!! how do you think most of this country produces electricity?
-AND-
What about all these factories out there that are just spewing crap into the air by the ton? I think some of
these companies should be taking a whole lot more responsibility for what's going into the air, and do their part to reduce the environmental footprint we are all leaving.
I realize that last part didn't have much to do with the direct point of this news snippet, but i feel a little better now.

Sharky

I like how the Bush lovers (southern and Ducati Minor, I'm looking at you) suddenly jump on the pro-electric car bandwagon because their Beloved Leader now gives them a (severely belated) thumbs-up. If Al Gore were saying the same thing (and he has) he'd be a "shrill enviro-wacko".

Aww Jeez,How in the hell did I get on The Daily Kos?
