I understand he was fined for his lack of good sense and judgement. He should have been jailed instead, and have his license taken away and banned from driving ever again. Plus, enroll him in some parenting classes,and leave no child in his care until he knows better. Fool.

When you think of the tragic consequences that could have resulted from his stupidity I think imoore is right.

While I fully support the use of seatbelts, I don't think this guy was thinking "I love/care about my beer more than my child", but probably "when I take this corner, my beer might fall off the seat, but little billy can hold on". It's stupid, however not malicious. Realize that humans can balance themselves and retain their position much better than an inanimate object, which is probably what he was thinking.
