Rain or Shine: The Solar-Powered Wheelchair

solarwheelchairhl.jpgA research team at the Southern Taiwan University of Technology has taken the question of alternative power to the world of the disabled, by harnessing the power of the sun to aid in personal mobility.

Citing drawbacks in both traditional hand-powered and electric wheelchairs, muscle fatigue and cost respectively, the Thai researchers have built the prototype for a solar-powered wheelchair.

The prize-winning design will allow for a range of 10 to 12 kilometers (6.2 to 7.5 miles) and could likely be priced at less than half what a traditional electric wheelchair would cost.

Well, when it rains, and you are stuck in the middle of nowhere since you don't have power, at least you'll be dry.

And haha. I just caught what Robert Anderson was pointing out. Thailand and Taiwan are somewhat different countries.
