Honda’s Drive Recorder to Archive Accidents
Honda has devised a recorder intended on ending the ambiguity surrounding an auto accident. No more he said, she said.
The black-box-like recorder features audio and visual evidence of an accident that is stored on the recorder’s SD memory card. The 135-degree range camera stores information from 12 seconds before an accident and eight seconds afterward.
The Honda Drive Recorder also captures speed and deceleration rates. The recording can also be controlled manually so that you may capture funny moments in your car’s path. But, the device is truly designed to document accident information for insurance and police purposes.
Sadly, the Drive Recorder is only available in Japan for around $500.

How long before someone creates a device that will zap all memory in a car to avoid it being used against the owner?

Why stop there? Why not in-car cameras as well to capture the driver actions and reactions. Opens a whole new world of YouTube moments and Funniest Home Video segments. Not to mention the cold hard evidence in court that will send you up the river for losing control as you gave the other driver the bird...

I would not pay $500 for that. What's there to stop it from providing solid proof that you were totally at fault?
