It may be the fastest mower you can buy, but Dixie Chopper owns the fastest lawn mover.
The Dixie Chopper Jet, powered by a 150hp jet engine has been clocked in excess of 70mph.
The Dixie Chopper Xcaliber lawn mower is to your average John Deere what a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is to a Honda Accord; faster, cooler, and massively more expensive.
Ringing up for a princely $11,400, the Xcaliber makes the claim that it is the “world’s fastest lawn mower,” and is likely among the most costly. While we don’t test enough high performance ride-ons to verify the speed claims, we can say that the Dixie Chopper is mighty impressive.
The mower offers a 38 horsepower Kohler gas motor, with optional diesel and propane-powered engines as well, that will propel it to a top speed of 15 mph. That kind of ground speed translates into nine acres worth of cut grass per hour (again, we’re told that’s a lot), and immeasurable bragging rights over the other guys in your neighborhood. The Xcaliber also offers amenities like a 12-volt adapter for cell phone or iPod charging while on the cut. Summer never seemed so promising.

World’s fastest?….yes, in a striaght line. But comparing it to John Deere, oh please. Might want to do some more research next time - the John Deere 1600 Turbo is 57hp and can cut up to 11 feet wide. And even the smaller John Deere’s are 31hp. So with all due respect, the Bugatti-Honda comparison doesn’t quite fit.
Jacobsen used to make a 90+ HP turbo diesel, I think it cut 15 or more feet, also I think Toro made a 24 foot commercial mower, but none of these had a very high ground speed. I believe Dixie Chopper’s claim is Guinness World Records certified, but who really cares. I saw the Jacobsen in person, at more than $75,000 it was impressive.
If it ain’t Green, it’s crap.
