Norway-based electric vehicle maker Th!nk Global has announced today that it will be returning to the U.S. with its City car. The company made its first go at success under the Ford umbrella, but sluggish sales caused The Blue Oval to dump the brand back in 2003.

Th!nk CEO Jan-Olaf Willums is expected to present the new version of the City car that failed for Ford, during an upcoming environmental conference.

Three American companies are already heavily invested in the Th!nk’s return to the States, thanks in no small part to the resurgence in interest for small, alternative power vehicles. A123 Systems Inc. of Watertown, Massachusetts and EnerDel Inc. of Indianapolis, Indiana provide batteries for the European version of the car, and General Electric has contributed more than $4 million to Th!nk Global.

Gosh,I really want to like this car;but,I can’t for the following reasons:

First, the car looks like a cross between the front of a MINI/Beetle.

Second, the car has the size of the SMART ForTwo.

Third, the car looks like the back of Volvo’s version of the MINI Cooper.

I hope it does well. Man,do we as a Country need more cars that lessen our dependence on overseas oil. However, the THINK Car lacks originality.

124 miles per charge (according to their website). Hope it sells well then they might bring over the 5 passenger, 4 door.

A123 batteries eh? KillaHatch?

Would be neat to see a 6-7 second (0-60) hatch like this go into (relative) mass production… I would think that’d be an easy target to hit.

Don’t hold your breath. Look at Tesla. They’re selling cars at $100k a pop and still can’t get it done right.

I’m glad to see Think return to the States. They do need to add the 5-door Ox and possibly a pickup to the lineup, add proper marketing and publicity, and they could do quite well. But I wouldn’t use Tesla as an example. With teir delays, lawsuits, and other goof-ups, the make a perfect example of how not to launch a car company.

I would really like to have a small car like this but I have read somewhere else that the car includes a battery rental! Nope, I BUY my vehicles. I don’t rent them or any part of them.

Maybe that leaves the door open for aftermarket batteries to purchase.

All I need is a small VW Golf style car with a 75 mile range. My commute is only 10 miles each way. A small four seater car with a top speed of 60 mph/60 miles and a/c would be even better.

Not sure than mainstream America is ready for anything too funky. Heck it’s tough to get some folks out of their SUVs into normal sized cars.
