That is just awesome.
Computer-generated outline? Nope. It’s real. Dubbed “Modern Japanese Classic,” this 1:1 Subaru Impreza wire frame sculpture is the work of British artist Benedict Radcliffe. Apparently local traffic cops weren’t pleased that the art was parked outside of the gallery on the street, as over the course of a few days, it was issued a few parking tickets! The
piece was recently displayed as part of a larger Radcliffe show at the Paul Smith Gallery in Mayfair last month, and we’re sorry we missed it.
Among some of the artist’s other transportation-related pieces? An interesting Marilyn Monroe painting on a car hood, with BMW’s roundel emblem employed as the iconic actress’ beauty mark. Radcliffe also displayed a full-size vehicle made up of the two halves of a black Volkswagen Golf, giving the sculpture a minivan/transportation pod look. Great stuff.
We stumbled upon this artist’s work and have a hard time finding a single source for more images and information, so we’ve aggregated a bunch of links and a couple of images after the jump. If you know more about this artist, please let us know by leaving a comment!

I think they may have problems ticketing the car when it has no registration plate, nor engine (number), nor VIN number. I hope he doesn’t leave it there overnight, else somebody might hit it. I guess they’d get bored and tow it away anyway.

These are fake. If you look closely at the images you can see the pixelation of the lines of the car. Also, as someone has already pointed out, there are no shadows at all, which for a night photo would not be possible.
Nice try though…almost had me fooled!
no, this indeed is not fake. seen it myself with me own eyes. was in Glasgow few months back also.

I is probably not CG. The daytime photos are in shadow, hence no shadow. The nighttime shot was using flash, so the shadow is directly behind the wire frame, hard to spot at close range.

Bolt_Za and asiarock:
You’re both ignorant fools for accusing this of being fake. It’s simply well done and you can’t accept that. You know nothing of lighting or 3D design at all. With thin wireframes, the shadows become virtually non-existent, especially if the lighting is diffused. And the pixelation comes from scaling down of a higher resolution image for web viewing. This effect will be frequently noticable where there are higher-contrast diagonal lines.
Also, many people have seen this art project on display and it’s been advertised in numerous puplications like Design Week (http://www.designweek.co.uk/Articles/133674/Benedict+Radcliffe.html). Do you suppose everyone is lying to keep a myth going?
Thanks for the laughs and once again reminding us all that the idiot movement is alive and well on the internet!
The work is entitled Modern Japanese Classic and was the main piece in my first show at The Brunswick Hotel in Glasgow in 2005. I made the car whilst working with Scott Associates based in Maryhill.

That’s blowing my mind. I almost skipped over this on the MAKE: site, because I was thinking “who cares about a CG wireframe overlaid on a photo?” Very impressive.
The nite pic’s taken with a flash, so it’s counter acted on its natural shadows. See edges of frame. Also see reflection in water on road. Not fake in my opinion.
