If this full-size movie rig of Speed Racer’s fabled Mach 5 from Warner Bros.’ upcoming live action film is anything to go by, we’re looking forward to seeing the finished product.

We first saw images of the cartoon racecar some days ago, but now the film has sprouted its own website (www.speedracerthemovie.com).

The production stars Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer), Christina Ricci (Trixie), Susan Sarandon (Mom Racer) and John Goodman (Pops Racer), and boasts Larry and Andy Wachowski on the writing/directing front (best known for creating “The Matrix”).

Check out the link below for a synopsis of the film, cast list, and so on.

and let the overhyping begin! i’ve always wondered, when something like this gets so hyped, how can the crew even put together something that’ll come close to expectations?

ah well, now i just know that i have to set aside my $10 to see it….

The bios on that site are a laugh and a half. There is obviously some hard core butt-kissing going on.

Ten bucks to see a matinee nowadays. Damn. No wonder Hollywood is losing money. I’m not expecting much from the film–much like Transformers.

HERESY ON THE TRANSFORMERS COMMENT AC!!! jk man, i’m not expecting much from the movie either, but for nostalgia’s sake, i’ll see it.

and i didn’t suggest matinee prices at $10 a pop. but, after i pay for my wife, buy popcorn, and then find a nice seat, it’s close to ten a person, i’m sure.

Speaking as a lifelong Speed Racer fan, I can say I lu-huve the casting.

A plot right out of NASCAR!

Hell yeah! The cast is really well chosen, they look really close to the comic characters! I mean, Trixie really looks like Christina Ricci! Of course, a good casting doesn’t mean a good movie, but certainly, after seeing movies abiut Batman, Superman, and even Godzilla, the Speed Racer one was obviously missing. I guess it’s easier to get the correct casting than to build the Mach 5!

Funny, an automotive site with no actual mention about the car, other than some loving comments for the picture. One day I will stop reading.

This is just amazing! I wonder how it fares going into underground car parks, etc! Front overhang looks dangerous!

This is the first day I heard of this movie. Yep… lifelong fan of the “Speed Racer” original cartoon, along with “Astroboy” and “Tobor the 8th Man” back in the mid 1960s. The expectations for this kind of movie have got to be pretty high. I mean, how do you make a real car slice trees down with two circular front end saws? And how do you drive underwater? I just want to see the Mach 5 convincingly jump over other cars with the 4 pogo stick jacks from the chassis. I really want to see that! The Mach 5 was the very first thing that I learned to draw from any angle, since they showed it from all sorts of angles in the original cartoon. I have a few scale models of it. Now I am a professional cartoonist and work in Japan regularly (nine times since 1999).

I wish I could be on the development team for the movie, like RIGHT NOW. Sign me up! I want to help out.

Let’s hope the story is as rich as the computer EFX they will probably use. And the music has to grab you too. Man, best of luck on this movie.
