Skoda’s Discrimination: Polish Workers Not Treated Fairly in Czech Auto Plants?
The Czech Republic may be part of the European Union, but Polish auto workers employed in the country aren't feeling any love. A report from Hemscott says that Polish employees of Volkswagen-owned Skoda Auto are treated worse than their Czech colleagues.
The employees, reportedly hired as temporary workers, have supposedly been subjected to worse conditions and pay scales, especially in comparison to Skoda's full-time employees. Zetka Auto, the firm that recruited the Polish workers, was investigated by a Czech ombudsman who found the organization failed to ensure that work and wage conditions for the temporary employees matched those of the permanent staff.
No further details were released on how the Polish staff were marginalized, nor do we know if they were mistreated by Skoda itself or merely Zetka. Regardless, Skoda claims it has changed its policies for selecting recruitment agencies.
