Hot Wheels Unveils $140,000 Toy Car
We told you about Hot Wheels’ 40th Anniversary earlier this year, along with the unveiling of the company’s anniversary car to align with the 4 billionth toy car to roll off the production line.
Now, at the American International Toy Fair in New York, Hot Wheels has unveiled the anniversary car. And, it’s diamond-encrusted. What? Yup, the car’s 18-karat white gold frame is covered in 2,700 blue, black, and white diamonds – reportedly to mimic Hot Wheels’ Spectraflame blue paint. The 1:64 scale car was designed by celebrity jeweler Jason of Beverly Hills.

Somehow, encrusting cars with stones, be it Swarovski crystals or actual diamonds, just makes the car look uglier and far gaudier. They should stop trying to do that.
