We were really geeked when we first heard about, and started seeing the first images of, the upcoming Speed Racer live-action movie from Warner Bros. Now it looks like our fandom for all things Mach 5 will have another, more hands-on outlet with the corresponding Speed Racer video game.
While early screen shots from the arcade-style racer make it look a lot like a cross between Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario Kart, the actual race cars in the game look pretty cool. They are, to put it mildly, over the top. The Mach 5 has been given a major update in all areas, and the rest of the pack run the gamut from a sort of bullish F1 car, to a snake on wheels, and of course a new version of Racer X’s ride.
We’ll reserve our full judgment until we get a turn at the game, but until then have a look at some of the Speed Racer cars in our gallery below.

Although I’ve been following the development of this movie with zero enthusiasm, I believe this car might be the Mach 6. Apparently, the 5 gets trashed and they have to make a new car.
This car also has a “6″ on the side, which may be some manner of clue.
I am going to see this movie. I hope I will like it as much as I do the Tv series. And I’m getting the Game on Wii.
Mach 6… Thank God. My inner child thinks the Mach 5 still rules! I’m 10 x 4.5 years old.
