Ménage à Trois: Three Across ‘73 Matra Bagheera on eBay

A product of the union of two French automaking curios Matra and Simca, the Bagheera was a hotbed of innovation throughout its life. Launched in 1973 (same as the model on offer) the Bagheera featured a mid-engine configuration, three-abreast seating, and a polyester body shell. Needless to say, to find one on eBay in the US isn’t a commonplace event.
Named after the panther from The Jungle Book, this Bagheera isn’t without feline charms. Though the profile looks a little more like a first-generation Celica than a crouched tiger, the interior definitely seems to have had some kind of cat in it. A cat with sharp claws.
Hard to say if the early low bidding on the Matra is a result of the missing rear deck lid or the relatively uncollectible pairing of brown paint over a sort of “yellow cake” interior. No bidder could complain about larger structural issues though, as the seller reassures us that “the car has a chassis.” Bid with confidence.
