One only needs to look at the offerings. The Camry Solara has never been considered much--a Japanese Monte Carlo. Mustang Mania has run dry. The Nissan 350Z and Mazda RX-8 are both aged and pretty expensive. The Hyundai Tiburon and Mitsubishi Eclipse, I'm sorry, are both bad jokes that should stay in Japan.

Not one fun car about those "sporty" ones mentioned (except for the overpriced RX-8). No wonder they're not doing too well.
BTW, Ducati Minor, Hyundai Tiburon could only stay in Japan if a transport from Korea broke down in a Japanese port. ;)

only the Mustang, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Toyota Camry Solara, and Mazda RX-8...what? what about all the others that are sold in the States? G6 Coup, Accord Coup, Altima Coup, Charger, etc. Isn't the BMW 3 series coup a midsize sporty coup? If you are going to talk about sales of such cars, should you include all models that are sold? Does it have to be a "coup" to be a midsize “sporty
