Ford: No, We’re Not Selling Volvo

On the heels of yesterday’s discussion over the potential sale of Volvo (a business entity owned by the Ford Motor Company under PAG) to BMW, Ford has released a statement that it’s not exploring the option:

Ford Motor Co. is not in discussions with BMW or any other company regarding an interest in the Volvo Car Corp. We have seen this kind of speculation for the past year, as Ford Motor Co. has been assessing our operations and portfolio – as any good company does and we will continue to do.

There you have it. It’s off the block, leaving BMW enthusiasts to gasp a sigh of relief (if yesterday’s comments on our story are any indication) and Ford fans resolute in knowing their partnership with Volvo is still intact.

Editor’s Note: Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. While the BMW-buying-Volvo rumors might not be true at the moment, there’s not a lot of evidence to support the idea that Ford and Volvo will be married forever. Everything, including a safety-conscious Swedish car company, has its price.

Good. Last thing BMW needs to do is compete with itself with i-drive equipped Swedish cars. But whose to say Ford will run into a wall paying back their $20 billion loan and won’t need to off load Volvo? But I’m sure it won’t be to BMW.

How would this have made any sense anyway?

Ford and Volvo share far too many parts.
