DCX Restructuring Plan Due In February

Reuters is reporting that DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler Group will have a restructuring plan ready by February. It's unclear if "ready" means simply internally or if this will become a formal announcement; one would expect the latter.

The company has investors waiting for some sort of answer, given recent statements that 2006's P&L statement will likely be $1.3 Billion in the red. In terms of pure market share in the U.S. market, DCX gave up the third position to Toyota (the Asian manufacturer gained 13 percent in U.S. sales) while lots sat with unsold inventory. DCX is expected to look for growth outside of the U.S. market, while their in-market sales should improve when their Chery-produced small cars come to bear.

While the terms of the restructuring plan will be revealed in a few weeks, some insiders say that Chrysler Vice President for Communications Jason Vines may have increased responsibilities. It's possible those increased responsibilities could include more control over marketing, while not necessarily the sales component.
