I think a downturn in Auto sales are to be expected. When people are losing their homes to foreclosure, they are not going to buy new cars. In turn the auto companies will offer incentives to try to get sales of stagnant inventory, and some folks will buy. In a year or two, current 2-3 year old cars will start wearing out, or in the caseo fo the Northeast, start rusting out, and will need to be replaced, at which point cars will start selling again. The auto industry has been going through boom/bust cycles since after WW2, why should it be different now?
