American Axle Not Happy with New UAW Proposal
The United Auto Workers union presented a new contract proposal to American Axle on Wednesday, and while the parts manufacturer said that the new effort was a slight improvement on the first contract offer, it maintained that the offer still wasn’t competitive within the current market.
American Axle has proposed steep cuts for UAW employees, claiming that drastic measures will be needed to stay in line with the costs of today’s competition. The company has offered buyouts for UAW workers who would prefer to leave American Axle and “buydowns" for hourly workers who are willing to take pay cuts and reduced benefits. The manufacturer has also said that if it couldn’t come to terms with the union, it would have to close U.S. plants.
The UAW and American Axle officials are still negotiating, in hopes that some middle ground can be found, and that the six-week strike can be ended.

Well, maybe they'll make good on their threat and move the rest of production to Mexico and show the UAW what happens when you cut your nose off to spite your face.

The UAW sure seems to be negotiating from weakness. Their timing couldn't be much worse.

They (AAM) should just move to Mexico. That should show UAW/CAW that you can't destroy the company that signs your pay cheque and still expect to have a job.

What you pinheads fail to consider, as the UAW wages fall what do you think will happen to you????
Steve
... Mike, being one of those pinheads... It seems to me that if the UAW's wages continue to fall, American car makers can stay competitive with the rest of the world. Nothing happens to me.
Where does it say that everyone should be guaranteed a job all the time?

Like I tell everyone on theses blogs....
I want to see any of you jokers work for a company, for 14 yrs, and take a 60% pay cut, your benefits and pensions taken away. And while your company is taking this from you sit there and take it. Don't complain or fight just accept it. Don't worry about your families. Forget about your home. Just take it.
I am tired of hearing all of your negative comments.
If you are the type of person who will take this lying down then YOU deserve it. My husband and I are not taking it lying down. We will fight til the end. And in the end if we still wind up with this insulting wage at least we know we went down with a fight!

+1 Jolyna. I wrote before... what would you do in the worker's position? Accept a drastic pay cut, or fight for what you can get from the company, which to my understanding, is not hurting.
I do not agree with everything that the UAW does, and believe that it can and has caused harm to the US auto industry, but here I believe they are doing what the workers at the plant want them to do, and what any other union, UAW or not, would do in the same situation.
Good luck to you and your husband, and the many others involved as well!
