Japan Report: Toyota’s Modellista Picks Up Speed with New Vanguard, Vitz
Modellista is Toyota's aftermarket customizing division in Japan, producing revved up versions of domestic street offerings, one after another. It's now a tradition in Japan for Modellista to spring its own restyled version of a new Toyota model just as it's launched onto the market.
Case in point, Modellista has just come up with its own revamped version of the Vanguard, Toyota's sleek new three-row RAV4 spin-off. With new grille and bumper etc., do you think it is an improvement?
Of more interest to gearheads will likely be the Vitz TRD Turbo M, a complete customized 1.5-liter turbo version of Vitz (Yaris) that Modellista's offering up. The Turbo M brings a unique turbo, intercooler and ECU treatment, compete with a sportified low-down suspension and modded clutch as well. The five-speed TRD Turbo M bangs out 148 brake-horsepower and is on the market for ¥2.215 million (say $19,122).
Modellista will also sell you a Vitz RS TRD Racing complete with roll cage (but standard 1.5-liter engine and 108 bhp) for $19,575, or the TRD Sports M which is a lightly tuned version of the street Vitz RS in Japan, with 117 bhp and $16,167-$16,258 price tag.
Hot stuff....

While I don't mind the new additions to the Vanguard, which I think already looks great stock, it doesn't really add anything for me, looks-wise.
But here's a question. Why don't they offer the Vitz TRD Racing with the turbo? I would have thought that it would be the fastest sportiest one, with the most horsepower.

150hp for the Vitz is still a bit low. I say around 180hp would be about right. That is if you can get pass the center mounted gauge pod.
I can't....

148 hp for the Vitz would be dead on perfect. I'd LOVE something like that. Very cool.
