Japan Report: Nissan Skyline Selling Handsomely at Home

nissan-skyline-2.jpg

Nissan's new V36 Skyline sedan is handsomely beating sales predictions in Japan. Fully redesigned last November (as the Japanese-speaking cousin to America's new Infiniti G35), the Skyline was targeted to sell 1000 units per month. Year-to-date, however, the car has done more than 11,000 units, producing many smiling faces at Nissan in the bargain.

The Skyline's traditionally regarded more for its driving dynamics, but Nissan recently conducted a test in which a 2.5-liter Skyline ran more than 1000 kms (621 miles) on one tank of gas, averaging 38.4 mpg in the process. The drive took one day, from Tokyo to Kyoto and back and involved eight drivers. Officials are said to have noted that the car's automatic fuel warning light never even flashed once.

38.4 mpg from a 2.5-litre V-6?

Uhhhhhhhh...

Johnny Rocket

Does not look good with four doors. Infiniti should also do more to juice up the numbers. Make a G35 S that can take on an Audi S4 or a BMW M3.

Kal

There already is a G35 Sport. One of the "other" mags just did a comparison with a 330i or 335i (I can't recall which). The BMW still won, surprise?

I wouldn't even believe 28.4 mpg!

"There already is a G35 Sport."

I meant an "S" as an equivalent as a BMW M or Mercedes AMG.

DDL

I've seen a couple of the new "G"s. Better looking in real life than pictures and a nice update of the previous car.

This Red Skyline 2.5 liter car does look nice in design
and may do vey well in the American market but for this
American I'm still looking for more of a different shape of a car. Seems like all auto manufacturers have jumped on the band wagon with this shape of car
so it seems to me. I will look forward in test driving
this Skyline 2.5 liter to see how much punch it really
has under that hood and see how economically it can be.
thank you, Nissan.

"typical horrible crap looking asian car"

Oh so what sort of car do you think looks better? An American one? The kind of crap ones that are copied from the Asian designs?.....

I'd take a G35 sedan or coupe anyday thank you!

Wow. If the Skyline looks anything like this I'll be glad I got the current generation. Of course it wont, because this is just a rendering of what some automotive journalist THINKS the next car might look like. His guess is as good as any of ours only he's got his guess down on paper. The first 350Z's did have serious suspension issues that caused feathering or "cupping" on the front tires. That has been resolved. So yeah, they had some problems but I bought my 2006 brand new and it's been nothing but a kick in the pants. I'll probably end up buying the next rendition of the Skyline along with new nissan exhaust because of the performance and quality.

"38.4 mpg from a 2.5-litre V-6?

They don't actually mention it, but, the reason this car is able to achieve those numbers in gas mileage is because it is a 2.5 L FOUR CYLINDER, the same four banger that they use here in the states, not the 3.5L V6, or the new 3.7L V6 used in the new G37 coupe. At best, the either V6's could probably get about 31-34mpg on the highway, with a CVT, so long as you don't "put your foot in it".....
