2009 Mitsubishi EVO Details Trickling Out One Brochure at a Time

evo-jdm-brochure.jpg

Details about the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution continue to leak out ahead of its official debut, thanks largely to that thing we call the ‘Internet.’

Apparently, someone at the Lancer Register has gotten their mitts on a 14-page brochure which provides details (in Japanese) about the car inside-and-out. The forum member thoughtfully went and scanned the whole document, revealing to the rest of the wired world the changes that have been exacted over the concept car.

If the source material is credible, that means that the interior and exterior have had some fairly extensive detail changes, including the deletion of LED headlamps and integrated fog lights, along with the institution of new mirrors and side vents.

The interior has sobered up as well, but as promised, there’s the dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters, along with a central information display.

If the power figures are right, the Japanese-spec EVO rings up 206 kW at 6500 rpm (276 horsepower) and 311 pound-feet of torque (@ 3500 rpm), which are certainly nice numbers, but a bit under where we were expecting to see the car come in. Of course, the U.S.-spec car will likely arrive in a slightly different state of tune, so...

I was never an Evo fan (vs. WRX STI), but I think I've just changed my stripes.

ryan

ooh baby! still can't afford (the insurance) it, but i'd hit it.

The Stig

Same as Reilly, I would look twice now (instead of only at the STi)

smokeydog001

I like it, but what ever happened to drag coefficient? These modified Mack Truck grills from Chrysler, Audi, etc. make any car look like a carp!

Reilly Brennan

True, but breathe coefficient is more important to them.

Is it just me, or does it seem like the Japanese get real technical information in their brochures? When you look at a brochure for the US market, it will have colors and option lists, but very little tech info.

Pocky Is God

Why are they putting the BHP at the "gentlemans agreement" high point of 276? That is no longer relevant and broken by the Legend in Nippon a year ago. Are companies still abiding by that tired rule?

Don

The Evo's always been the better looking of the two (STi)...but from what I hear, the Subie is easier to live with every day.

Keith Power

Don is right. Up to this point the STi is much more daily drivable. We will see if this changes.

mo

why only 276 bhp .... can't they raise it a bit. it's been like this since almost a decade.

naggs

the evo 9 is making more than 276, everyone was expecting somwhere between 300-350. it looks great but with the extra weight the new car will be lugging around its going to need more power to be faster than the old car.

Man, with the way the new WRX looks now, it's hard not to choose the Lancer...I mean look at that brochure, the Evo X looks AWESOME. Yum, intercooler goodness.

Ath.

At least they tried to design it. Not like the wrx that looks like a cross between the mk1. estate version of it, and a pile of shite
