Volkswagen Struggling to Produce Enough 1.4 TFSI Engines

golftfsihl.jpg

Apparently the car-buying public is quite enamored with Volkswagen’s 1.4-liter TFSI engine, as the German automaker is reportedly struggling to keep production in-line with demand.  British Autocar reports in the latest copy of its print edition that VW can’t supply enough examples of the powerplant to the wider VW group.

The factory that produces the 1.4 TFSI is just able to keep up with the needs of Volkswagen itself, meaning brands like Seat are being left in the cold. Seat’s supply of the engine is currently under restriction; bad news for fans of the Spanish VW variant, and for the company’s bottom line.

(One hot Seat in our gallery below.)

It's too bad we can't get this engine in America, and, from the sound of this, that's unlikely to change any time soon.

Mena

I wonder why we don't have this too. It would be a good replacement for the 2.5L and would have better gas mileage too.

Mirko

It's also in the Audi A3, replacing the 1.6FSI. Seems to work nicely in the Passat and Eos too.

Trinks

I'm hoping this engine finds its way into the new rear engine, rear drive VW platform, and that we'll get this particular combination. Hell, call it a Super Beetle and you'll sell boatloads, VW!

Cicero

They should build an engine plant in America, with the weak dollar building the engine here and exporting it to Europe would be cheaper and then those of us in America could get the engine

Brett

Syntax and punctuation, Jeez Cicero!
The 1.4 TSFI is too wide for the Up!(Lupo) platform.

Cicero

Brett, who died and made you the grammar police

mo

i donno, brett, are you a writer or something? why do you get pissed off if ppl write like crap, as long as the idea is being understood i don't give a damn.
anyways, that is really pathetic to hear from VW. end of it.
@ trinks, there is not a single VW with a FR platform. they won't make one especially for the engine.

Mena

I have to agree with mo. That's just not going to happen.

Cicero

Too bad SEAT is getting a bit shafted on that restriction, I wonder if the same thing is happening to Skoda, VW's Eastern European brand (personally I wish SEAT and Skoda were in America, SEAT could be good looking perfomance, while Skoda would be cheaper economy cars).

Too bad no one would buy either if they were sold here.

Cicero

I know mena, but a man can dream

Mena

Cicero,
True indeed. I wish we could get the Clio RenaultSport here myself.

Cicero

That is also a great car I wish we got here, and the high performance versions of the Astra
